The Franche-Comté region likes to promote itself as a haven for "green tourism" or nature tourism; in hot summers, when much of France turns brown and dry in the heat, Franche Comté, watered by summer storms, almost always remains green and inviting. This is an area famous for its agricultural products, notably the famous "Comté" cheese. Milk, a substantial amount of which is used to produce butter and cheeses are the most important products. In the western lowland areas, cereal cultivation (wheat, barley, and oats) is of greater importance, often with much of the harvest used as animal feed. The Jura mountains are great for nature lovers and winter sports fans. The foods are hearty nourishing soups made with potato and cabbage with chunks of pork or sausage thrown in, or a delicate creamy soup made with frog legs and white wine.
