The region is made up essentially of areas of relatively flat agricultural land and areas of gently undulating hills. The Champagne region is not a particularly busy tourist destination. Its rurality, accessibility and low population density have attracted a number of second-home owners from the Paris region and from Belgium and Holland. When tourist do come they do lots of wine tasting. The food eaten here is very hearty such as lamb or smoked ham, together with vegetables, beans and sometimes sausage. Good use is made of the abundant wild game. Winters tend to be cold, crisp and clear; summers are warm and relatively dry.
