Unlike many other regions, the Centre region is not a historic province; it is, as its name perhaps implies, the heart of historic France, the area between the Paris region and the Loire valley. This vast and rich cultural area is known for its imposing cathedrals. Centre is known for its grapes, and is a leading producer of barley, corn and wheat. It also produces rapeseed, sugar beets and sunflowers. The industries here are three nuclear powerplants, automotive parts, ball bearings, tires and plastics are among its production.
